Alberton SPCA introduces drop-off kennels project

Following cases of animals being left at their gates to roam with the hope that someone will pick them up, the Alberton SPCA has introduced its New Year project.

In the past, the Alberton SPCA has had several animals left at its gate, tied up or left to roam with the hope that someone will pick them up.

They have reportedly had cases where these furry friends were petrified, not knowing where they are and why their humans have just abandoned them.

According to Alberton SPCA manager Charmain Southon, these animals do not trust strangers and it becomes extremely difficult for them to catch these animals running in the street.

“Some animals have even been thrown over the wall, as in the case of cats and a rabbit causing, them injuries, despite there being staff on the premises and a 24-hour emergency phone number.

“The Alberton SPCA does not turn away any animal no matter what the reason, we would rather have the animal surrendered to us than left to their own fate,” she said.

As a result, she announced that they would like their 2022 project to be drop-off kennels to be built at the front of their premises.

“This will allow members of the public to leave their unwanted animals in a safe environment. We are appealing again for people and businesses in our community to sponsor us with building materials to help us achieve this,” said Southon.
