Aspiring singer and model brings home accolades

Alberton High School up-and-coming singer and model Murunwa Muavha proudly brought home medals after recently taking part in Talent Africa.

Aspirant singer and model Murunwa Muavha from Alberton High School recently brought home two gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal from the provincial Talent Africa competition.

The 17-year-old from Verwoerdpark, who is part of Michelle’s Dancing Academy, has made her school proud.

Her love for singing started at age 10 and music has always played a role in her life, from performing in a group to being a soloist.

Earlier in the year, she decided to go on a solo journey of performing with the help of Michelle Johnson from Michelle’s Dancing Academy and her supportive parents.

She also entered the Alberton Eisteddfod, where she obtained an 85% for her gospel section.

“I have always been a shy person when it came to performing. When I started high school, I joined the girls’ choir, where I improved my vocal skills and range under the mentorship of my amazing choir conductor and organiser, Mrs Strydom and Mrs Horne respectively. They really contributed to my talent and helped build my self-esteem,” she said.

She told the RECORD she is truly grateful for this milestone achievement and that she hopes for similar results in the future and to hopefully get sponsors.

“My advice for people is for them to be patient and humble. I’m also grateful for my school principal, Jannie Olivier, for supporting me in everything I do. He shows that anything you put your mind to is possible to achieve,” said Murunwa.
