Father and son knocked down by car in Newmarket

Boy (6) airlifted to the hospital after being knocked down by a car.

A six-year-old boy and his father were knocked down by a light motor vehicle on the R554 in Newmarket, Alberton, on October 17. The child was critically injured.

Paramedics from ER24 were the first on the scene at around 14:40.

“The boy was found lying on the gravel shoulder of the road, having suffered multiple critical injuries.

“The father was not injured in the incident. The boy was treated using advanced life-support interventions to stabilise his condition before he was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a hospital in Benoni for emergency care,” said Ross Campbell from ER24.

The boy (6) was airlifted to a private hospital in Benoni for further medical care.

The driver of the vehicle was also not injured during the incident.

“EMPD, the Fire Department as well as another private emergency medical service were all on the scene to help, as well as investigate.”
