A Brackendowns institution, Edu Build Development Institute, hosted a cultural event on October 9.

Edu Build Development Institute is an early childhood development institution that provides training for individuals. It promotes child healthcare and development through comprehensive early childhood development centres and community initiatives.

On the day, teachers in training were addressed by Dr Lorraine Mgobozi, a district official from Ekurhuleni South District Office, who delivered an inspiring and spiritually uplifting message.

Eileen Maleka from Wits University also took to the stage to encourage and motivate students to develop those in their care holistically.

According to Shennay Bhagwandeen of Edu Build Development Institute, they decided on this event as it promotes unity.

“The event embraces diversity and creates a sense of solidarity as well as a strong sense of community. The event allowed students to showcase their uniqueness by displaying their food, religious symbols, musical instruments and attires,” she said.

Bhagwandeen said this was to also assist students in becoming familiarised with different cultures and research various religions.

“In the process, they are empowered to become inclusive teachers thereby promoting inclusive classrooms. They learn to embrace all religions and cultures with respect. As a teacher, one is expected to consider the needs of individual students, as each one is unique and special in their own way,” she said.
