Brackendowns SAPS arrests girlfriend for fatally stabbing boyfriend

A 24-year-old woman from Thinasonke was arrested by Brackendowns SAPS for the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend on September 24.

According to police, the girlfriend of the 32-year-old victim claimed he went to a party with his friends in Johannesburg CBD and when she arrived home he was not there, so she went to bed.

She claimed he arrived home at around 04:00 and she saw he was out of breath and kept grabbing his chest, but she assumed it was because he was intoxicated. The victim fell to the floor and she realised he had a wound to his chest and called an ambulance.

The ambulance arrived but the victim was declared dead on the scene.

Investigating officers from Brackendowns SAPS spent time on the scene and following leads.

The investigation led them to believe the girlfriend was responsible for stabbing the victim.

“The scene was thoroughly combed through and blood was found on the bedsheets,” said WO Gerhard Cornelius, spokesperson for Brackendowns SAPS.

“One of our CCO members checked the girlfriend’s phone and found messages that she sent to a family member confessing to stabbing her boyfriend. After interviewing the girlfriend, she also pointed out the murder weapon.”

The suspect was arrested and charged with murder. The murder weapon was handed in as evidence at Brackendowns SAPS.

“This was an outstanding effort from our members,” said Cornelius.
