The Santa Shoe Box urges pledges

“Last year we were hoping to reach a million and we did reach that milestone. We hope this year we reach more than a million.”

It is that time of the year where Santa Shoebox charity starts collecting and distributing goodies to underprivileged children.

Art class teacher Carol Wright and her class have been part of the initiative. They are proud of all the donations they have been receiving over the years.

“Last year we were hoping to reach a million and we did reach that milestone. We hope this year we reach more than a million,” said Wright.

She explained that whoever is interested, the procedure is still the same and they can visit www.santashoebox.org.za for more information.

“You can also add extra gifts if you want to for the child you pledge to. We will be at The Glen Shopping Centre during the last weekend of October where we will be collecting the pledges. You can bring your boxes anytime from Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.”

Wright said all the members at her art school are vaccinated, but safety measures will be taken when collecting the pledges.

“There will be a table where everyone will drop off the boxes. Each box will go to a specific child at a school we are linked to. Teachers give us the list of the children whose names go on the site and we pledge from there,” Wright said.

A box can be pledged or sponsored with only the amount from R300, R350 to R400. Items range from a toothbrush, face cloth, sweets, toy, stationery and outfit of clothing.

If anyone wants to sponsor a box, they can contact Wright on 063 321 0380.
