Looking for next of kin of man who died in Annie Burger Retirement Village

It is suspected the deceased has been dead for about three weeks.

Stephen Kunene (70) died alone in his unit in Annie Burger Retirement Village in Crown Gardens.

His neighbours are looking for his relatives.

According to a neighbour, who wanted to remain anonymous, Stephen might have died weeks ago.

“A strong stench alerted us that there might be something wrong in his unit. I came from the hospital about three weeks ago, and that is the time I think he has been dead, as I haven’t seen him since.

“We called security on August 21 and they broke the door open. That was when his body was discovered and removed, around 02:00 on August 22. No one knew he was dead, people thought he was in the hospital. Anyone who knows his relatives needs to come forward,” he said.

The office at Annie Burger Retirement Village said there were means to try and locate his relatives via his burial society, Kupane.

Stephen was described as a hardworking man who always did most of the gardening around the village.
