Local expresses her grievances about Alberton North Clinic

A local has expressed her grievances on Alberton North Clinic, claiming its staff is being irresponsible.

Alberton North Clinic has been closed a few times due to staff members having Covid-19.

I had an appointment and was in a registered sister’s office. One by one other staff members came in talking and laughing, not on my behalf. When we were five people in a small office, with one sister without a mask, I decided to go and wait in the passage.

On my way out, I politely asked the senior sister: “Sister, where is your mask?” She sarcastically replied, “Where is my mask? Where is my mask?” I left the office.

Later on my way out of the clinic she came to me in the foyer with a mask on and almost pushing her face into mine, said: “Here is my mask,” and left.

Who is infecting who in this case? Is it from patients to staff or from staff to patients?

I will not identify the sister because all medical staff is worth gold in this Covid-19 time. I still feel the relevant health department or superintendent should call a staff meeting regarding this instance.

CoE response

City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the clinic is closed only if there is a need for sanitisation, which is in line with the Covid-19 management protocols.

“The community is informed through notices and other means of communication. At Alberton North Clinic social distancing is always maintained and all personnel wear masks. Other PPE like gowns, gloves, headcovers and shoe covers are also used when necessary, such as when collection of specimen for Covid-19 testing,” he said.

In consulting rooms, Dlamini assured that social distancing is practised, one professional nurse for one patient except for children who are accompanied by parents or guardians.

He said the clinic practises the policy of ‘no mask no entry’ and that masks are also provided to patients who don’t have or those wearing dirty masks.

“The chief professional nurse at Alberton North Clinic convened a meeting with the clinic personnel regarding the incident and none of the staff members were aware of the incident.

“The complainant could not be contacted due to unavailability of contact details,” said Dlamini.

He also said the incident is not remembered by all of the personnel but the importance of wearing masks as well as maintenance of social distancing were emphasized.
