Here’s how you can assist security officers

The community has been looking for ways to assist local security companies in these uncertain times.

Gary van den Heuvel, the chairperson of the Residents Association, recently came up with a way to assist security officers of local security companies.

ā€œWe have had many requests from residents about how we can assist our friends in the security companies who are looking after us day and night and often work long-hour shifts and even double shifts doing patrols and keeping our suburbs safe.

ā€œIt was asked if we can give hot food or clothing, but that simply is unpractical at this stage and will be difficult to handle logistically,ā€ said van den Heuvel.

After consulting with the security companies, the association is asking those who want to help to donate energy bars and energy drinks (sugar-free and sweetened) to help security guards on their long shifts.

ā€œAt this stage, this can be done by dropping off the items directly at your local security company premises (headquarters), and they will make sure they distribute them to the patrollers.

ā€œPlease call ahead of time if you can and please be conscious of social distancing and sanitisation protocols. If it looks too busy, then make a plan to come back later. Please don’t get in their way, we don’t want to be a distraction to them. But this is one way in which we can assist. They do extend their thanks to us,ā€ van den Heuvel explained.

According to him, local businesses are also trying to look after the patrollers.

ā€œThis is to assist them and say thank you for all they do. While some of us are tucked in a warm bed every night, these officers patrol the area in all weather conditions to keep the community safe,ā€ he said.

He thanked the Dragon Energy Drink and Superman Energy Drink companies for the donations.

ā€œThank you to everyone. Together, we can do this,ā€ he concluded.
