Violent protest in Alberton, residents advised to stay indoors

This follows continuous violent protests and looting in the Johannesburg Inner City and surrounding areas.

Alberton residents are urged to remain indoors and off the roads after reports of violent protests action in Alberton this evening, July 11.

Special Operations Group said the situation in Alberton North is contained for now.

“There are tyres burning in the streets and rubbers were fired but the looters are back in the informal settlement. They are not moving down towards Alberton CBD. We will update if the situation change.”

Community members are warned to avoid Alberton North, Radio Road and Bloutulp Street as the rioting is in Alberton.

“Please stay inside your homes and keep doors and gates locked as a precaution,” warns Alberton CPF.

Alberton CPF and Security companies are on the scene.

An update will follow as soon as more information becomes available.
