Parklands High recognises budding designer

Parklands High School's aspiring fashion designer was recognised for designing the school’s physical education T-shirt on June 8.

Thanks to Parklands High School’s designing competition, Ntokozo Lukhele is adamant that she is close to achieving her dream of one day being a fashion designer.

This comes after the Grade 12 learner received a certificate of appreciation on June 8 in recognition of designing the school’s physical education T-shirt.

The designing competition was introduced by a former teacher at the school to allow learners to explore their creative side.

With many learners taking part in the competition, Lukhele’s love for designing secured her first place as she showed off her uniqueness.

A proud Ntokozo Lukhele.

According to Lukhele, her love for clothing design goes back to when she was six years old, where she would childishly work on drawings.

“I’m not sure where this skill comes from because none of my parents can draw, but I have been a fan of drawing since a tender age. I have drawn portraits and also sketched clothing designs. After matric, I’m considering studying a BA in fashion design,” she said.

Lukhele said the inspiration behind her design was motivated by a need to show her distinctiveness by creating something extraordinary.

The school’s acting principal, Mantsha Maruma, said they were proud of her design and that this T-shirt has formed part of the school’s uniform.

Showing off the T-shirt is Kutloano Molefe.

“These T-shirts will be worn by learners who are celebrating their birthdays and whenever they are participating in physical education sessions. The winner’s selection process, however, was delayed by a few events at the school. I also drafted a testimonial letter, which she will use when applying at tertiary,” he said.
