In commemoration of National Child Protection Week, learners of Ligstad Playgroup and Aftercare were taught more on bullying on June 2.
This was inspired by the country’s annual awareness campaign advocating for the rights of children as articulated in the Constitution and Children’s Act.
The campaign is led by the Department of Social Development in partnership with key government departments and civil society organisations rendering child protection services.
Alida Jooste of Ligstad, partnering with Tutela Alberton, kept the little ones glued to their seats while she taught learners about bullying through a puppet show.
“This programme is spearheaded by Tutela and each social worker focuses on the school’s needs in carrying out their presentations. I offered an interactive session that made learners familiar with the subject of bullying.
“Learners were also handed educational pamphlets to be given to their parents, teaching more on bullying and child abuse,” said Jooste.
She also said as a team of social workers, these programmes were also introduced to neighbouring communities such as Eden Park, Thokoza and Palm Ridge.
