SAPS helps Palm RIdge old age home

SAPS with assistance from local donors donated blankets and food to Mgiba Old Age Home.

SAPS banded together with the community to provide much-needed relief to Mgiba Old Age Home in Palm Ridge.
The officers and generous donors visited the old age home on May 24 to donate blankets, food and clothes to the old age home.
Migiba Old Age Home was founded two years ago by Margaret Mgiba. The facility currently cares for 17 residents.
Mgiba said she founded the old age home when she experienced her own feelings of helplessness after being wheelchair-bound for a year and a half.
The old age home started as a feeding scheme, but after a year people asked whether she could accommodate and care for elderly residents. Mgiba expressed her extreme gratitude for the assistance they received.
“I’m really happy. I don’t even know what to say.”
According to Sergeants Mitta Boloi and Ronny Romaro, two of the driving forces behind the donation, it is important for SAPS to show that they care for their community.
They said the police wants to show that they are a force for good and not just there to arrest people.
The donation was made possible by Edenpark SAPS, Bedfordview SAPS, SAPS Social Development, Edenridge Secondary School and Mr Maseko of Palmridge Extension Nine.
Brig Nomthandeki Mthembu from the detective and forensic services branch of SAPS head office joined them on the day and commended the close work between officers and the community.
