Good Samaritans clean up Alberton SAPS

The men and women in blue were in for a surprise as they received a visit from the organisation, which decided to take a morning out to clean the station’s garden.

Tables were turned as members of Dameskring Alberton dedicated their services to Alberton SAPS on February 24.

The men and women in blue were in for a surprise when they received a visit from the organisation, which decided to take a morning out to clean the station’s garden.

Members of the organisation, whose values are instilled on Christianity, gave the station a facelift with the purpose of honouring these public servants.

To improve the garden’s appearance, they trimmed the trees, removed weeds and planted flowers. This follows a recent clean-up conducted by the group of ladies at Alberton Post Office, after numerous complaints of the state of cleanliness at the facility.

Brenda van Zyl of Dameskring Alberton said the aim of the clean-up was to appreciate the men and women in blue for their service to the community.

During the clean-up were Vinette Otto, Bets Ellis, John Mdakane, Herbert Tshabalala and Brenda van Zyl.

“We wanted to improve their garden so they can have a place where they can come and relax during their tea time or lunchtime. We also wanted people to see that we are proud South Africans who care for their community. Instead of complaining about a problem, we become part of the solution,” she said.

She told the RECORD they do not primarily focus on doing clean-ups, but they stand to empower Afrikaans Christian women.

“We are an organisation that stands to build families, conducting clean-ups is something we do to care for our community. These public servants ‘neglect’ their families to keep us safe, and that is why we have decided to extend gratitude,” said van Zyl.

On behalf of Alberton SAPS, Capt Manare Ramotshela commended and thanked the group for voluntarily offering their services to the station.

It was a fruitful day for the Dameskring Alberton group.
