Alberton wrestlers show their mettle

Shaun de Kock and Francois Joubert received a podium position at the national team trials tournament.

Alberton Wrestling Club is proud of two of their wrestlers who excelled at the national team trials held recently.

At the tournament, Shaun de Kock achieved first place in the u-71kg cadet Greco-Roman wrestling category. Francois Joubert was awarded third place in the u-61kg freestyle wrestling category.

Their achievements at this tournament have paved the first part of their journey to qualifying for the South African team. The next part for the pair is to take place in a national training camp with the national practice team.

During this camp, their fitness, potential and technique will be evaluated.

Should they be chosen for the team they will represent South Africa at the Africa Games El Jadid, Morocco, in April. Alberton Wrestling Club has high hopes for the two rising stars and hopes with the assistance of their new coach, Richard Addinall, a multiple commonwealth title wrestler, they will excel in representing Alberton.

The Alberton Panthers practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5.30pm to 6.30pm for beginners and learners and 6.30pm to 7.30pm for advanced and senior wrestlers.
