Monday blues for motorists as Nelson Mandela Bridge to close

The Nelson Mandela Bridge in Braamfontein will be closed off to traffic between Carr Street and Queen Elizabeth Bridge from 8:30 am to 10:30 am on Monday, February 15.

According to JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla, the bridge will be closed due to the launch of the Wits University and Braamfontein Precinct Crime Prevention Plan by the Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg Cllr. Geoff Makhubo and the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Public Safety Cllr. Mally Mokoena.

Motorists are advised to avoid Mandela Bridge at those times and they can use the M1 north off ramping at Smit Street, Biccard, Harrison, and Rissik Streets as alternative routes.

“JMPD officers will be deployed to divert and control traffic. The bridge will be accessible to pedestrians. We are appealing that motorists are patient at that moment,” he said.
