Two arrested in Roodekop and Katlehong

EMPD officers arrested two suspects in Roodekop and Katlehong during a crime-prevention operation.

Two men were arrested between February 4 and 5 in the Roodekop and Katlehong areas by EMPD Anti-High Speed and Drug Enforcement Unit members during a crime-prevention operation.

“On February 4 at 9.42am in the Roodekop area, the officers, patrolling the N3 freeway direction southbound (which is zoned 120km/h) with specialised motor vehicles, equipped with sophisticated high-speed tracking utensils, stopped and arrested a 38-year old man driving a white Volkswagen Polo for clocking 172 instead of 120km/h. The man and a male passenger said they were rushing to a funeral,” said Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD spokesperson.

The offender, facing charges of reckless and negligent driving, was escorted to Alberton Police Station.
On February 5 in the Katlehong area at 11.20am, a suspicious-looking 28-year old pedestrian was stopped and searched by the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit members in Siluma View.

Upon a body search, officers uncovered two R50 and R200 fake notes, 45 ziplocks of khat, seven live rounds of 9mm and 38 special firearms valued at R9 000.

“The suspect was taken to Katlehong Police Station and is facing charges of possession of counterfeit banknotes, possession and possible dealing in illicit substance and possession of unlicensed ammunition.”
