Good Samaritans partner up to make a difference

"I think it is very important to know who we are helping and in what situation.”

Tarryn Botha, a Creative Academy principal, has partnered with Ms Deaf South Africa 2020 finalist Megan Holmes to make a difference in the lives of others.

They decided to lend a helping hand in their personal capacity to Kasie Outreach, a community outreach programme that donates to informal settlements in Ekurhuleni. These, with many other donations received from the community, will be donated to needy residents of Montic informal settlement, a semi-rural community.

Botha went out of her way in donating non-perishable tinned products, bags of potatoes, soup and a stack of maize meal. She was joined by Megan Holmes, who donated a pack of non-perishable tinned products.

According to Botha, she decided to give back to the community outreach initiative after she came across a post on Facebook showing their good deeds.

“I was moved by Megan’s post of her supporting the initiative and decided to give back. I believe nobody should go to bed on an empty stomach and if we have changed one life, we shall have achieved a lot,” said Botha.

She also told the RECORD she was a strong believer in kindness and that she did this mainly to positively change a life.

Holmes, who described herself as a helpful person, said: “It is gratifying to see the heartfelt contentedness and happiness through the eyes of people who get help and to feel it through my heart. I think it is very important to know who we are helping and in what situation.”
