WATCH: Family and colleagues remember late tow driver
Thulisa Park almost came to a standstill as loved ones and colleagues came in their numbers to show their respect to the late Andries van Eden on October 20.
Different emergency and security companies gathered at the corner of South Rand and Voortrekker roads in remembrance of the late tow driver.
This is after the RECORD reported that he was declared dead on scene after being in a serious vehicle accident on October 18 on our website.
Upon arrival at the accident, crews reportedly found one vehicle lying on its side with the patient trapped under the vehicle.
As previously reported, the patient was assessed and declared dead on scene. Amanda Joubert of First Help told the RECORD that van Eden was involved in a three-vehicle collision.
“He was with one of his co-assistants and he died in a very sad way. He was the main man for our guys out on the road, and he was the heart of our company. He was an inspirational and wise man who cared and always shared jokes,” she said.
“In his honour, the different companies assembled at the busy intersection to remember him. “He served the community working for First Help and various other towing associations for over 28 years and was affectionately known as ‘uncle Jakkie’.”
The group later convoyed to his Roseacre home where they revved their cars and hooted to show appreciation.
Chimene van Eden, his wife, thanked organisers and everyone who came through for the occasion and described the event as amazing.
“This just showed us that he was a loving and caring person and more. He is survived by his six children and his wife. He will forever be remembered for his caring nature,” she said.
The cause of the accident will be investigated by JMPD.
His memorial service will be held on October 23 at the Alberton Methodist Church at 12am.
