Ward 94 is falling apart

Ward councillor Marina van Wyk showed the RECORD some of the issues within her ward.

Ward 94 covers Alrode, home to most of the city’s industrial activities.

Van Wyk said the ward is falling apart. The area is in dire need of maintenance with major damage to pavements and the sidewalks.

Some stormwater drains have even collapsed and no repairs have been done to fix them. Another issue within the ward is excavations done for repairs but are then left open.

According to Van Wyk, such excavations are not only unsightly but even pose a danger to pedestrians.

Roads are also a cause for concern. Due to the nature of business in the area, these roads support heavy loads, which worsen the impact of existing damage.

Potholes even cause traffic to come to a standstill as each car individually tries to navigate such pitfalls.
