Silwerkroon lift woe continues

Ward 106 councillor alderman Bruna Haipel, who had constantly questioned the progress of the lifts project, assured that lifts may soon arrive at Silwerkroon.

The waiting continues for Silwerkroon senior residents who were promised that lifts will be installed at the end of July.

However, Ward 106 councillor alderman Bruna Haipel, who had constantly questioned the progress of this project, assured that there may still be light at the end of the tunnel.

This is after Phumzile Nyatlo, the City of Ekurhuleni’s projects manager, guaranteed Haipel that Silwerkroon lifts were to arrive last month.

Nyatlo said they were working on the issue and that a new date had been set for the arrival of lifts.

“We are aware of the lifts and we have been working behind the scenes. We have so far constructed the backup generator plinths, which will await the arrival of the lifts.

“We were supposed to receive lifts this past week, however, due to the coronavirus lockdown the lifts will only arrive on September 8,” said Nyatlo.

Haipel said: “After so many years of empty promises and delays, I pray that the latest pledge from Council to have the new lifts installed by sometime in September will come to fruition. The residents of Silwerkroon have suffered long enough.”
