WATCH: Ntando Makwela launches #eAfrika campaign during Nelson Mandela month

One of the ways that digital inequality can be solved is to make access affordable.

Ntando Makwela from Mulbarton is launching a campaign entitled #eAfrika on July 31 during Nelson Mandela Month.

eAfrika is about empowering young people with devices to access online education, conduct assessments and download past papers as they focus all their energy and attention on obtaining good grades, and the Grade 12s, their access card for university in 2021.

Ntando, the youngest Play Your Part ambassador, is inviting fellow South Africans, young and old, to join him in support of township Grade 12 learners to finish their #2020AcademicYear strong.

Covid-19 has clearly laid bare the inequalities that learners in South Africa face daily, and a big one undeniably the gap in resources.

Access to online learning is crucial, not only to level the playing field but to prepare our learners for the 4IR (4th Industrial Revolution).

One of the ways that digital inequality can be solved is to make access affordable. A call goes out to all South Africans to donate new or any unused gadgets from smart cellphones, tablets and laptops that are still in a good working condition to make a difference in the youth, the future of this country.

“I strongly believe in ubuntu and that together we can bridge the digital divide in our country. Together we can make this statement by Nelson Mandela a reality: Young people must take it upon themselves to ensure that they receive the highest education possible so that they can represent us well in future as future leaders,” he said.

Like many others, Ntando had envisioned his Grade 12 year to have a matric dance and a great farewell, but this won’t be the case due to Covid-19.

With lockdown, many school-going learners have been left behind as the cost of WiFi, data and devices remain high. “The time has come for Grade 12 learners to apply for bursaries, college and university for 2021. The least that can be done is to give them the tools they need to excel this year,” he said.
