Mandela Day project eyes restoring dignity in the South

Return our Southern Suburbs to its former glory.

Anton Gilmore from the Box Office has launched a plan to return our Southern suburbs to its former glory as part of the Mandela Day celebrations.

Since the lockdown Anton and a collection of people living on the streets have cleaned some places and streets of the south logging 786 hours.

This included the South Rand Hospital, Verona Street, Comaro Avenue and Linmeyer shops.

“We have changed how people view the area where they live and even the spazza shop owners have jumped on board offering a beggar a food parcel once a day,” said Gilmore.

Anton appeals to people to clean the area right outside their own houses and shops on Mandela Day.

“If 5 000 people joined this venture the whole of the south would be rejuvenated in one day. We need to restore our dignity and create a better world for our children to live in.”

SPAR Kenilworth has offered a R2 000 food parcel to the best cleaned up area. All projects must be promoted on Facebook and Instagram by using the #adoptmypatch and #ilovemysouthhood tags.

The winner will be notified via the post.

“We are doing this for ourselves and as the American president once said ‘ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country’.

“Sp grab a spade and a broom and join the movement to restore your community. In Genesis 1, God said we must manage his planet. This is us doing His work.”

Since the lockdown Anton Gilmore and community members have cleaned the steets.
