The Art of Creating Beautiful Spaces – Tammy Taylor Nails South Africa

When clients walk into a Tammy Taylor Nails salon, they are immediately transported to a different world – one of glamour, elegance, sophistication and style. Many other salons believe in function over form, practicality over passion, but at Tammy Taylor, the aesthetics are key.

“When we started out with the Tammy Taylor brand in South Africa in 2013, we wanted our salons to be more than just your average nail and beauty salon,” says Melany Viljoen, President and Founder of Tammy Taylor Nails South Africa. “We wanted our spaces to be inviting, to make our clients feel special. We knew that a visit to a salon should be an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, a sanctuary where each client is treated like a queen. We also wanted to create beautiful spaces for our salon owners and their employees to work in, to enjoy coming to every day.”

From Tammy Taylor Nail & Pedi Bars, to their Premium salons and the full Spa experience, a common thread is evident – quality is not compromised, regardless of the size of the space. “Quality is everything to our brand, from the imported Tammy Taylor nail products that we use, to our highly skilled nail technicians and beauty therapists, and everything in between,” explains Melany.

“We focus on every little detail, making sure that our clients know they are the most important part of our business. When it came to designing the interiors of our salons, we knew this was as critical a part of the Tammy Taylor experience as beautifully crafted nails and quality treatments.”

Melany and her team work with professional graphic artists to create 3D renders of the interior of each salon, modelling every detail for franchisees before shopfitting commences. “It is important for us that our business owners understand the experience that we want them to provide to their clients, right from the very beginning,” says Melany.

“We detail the fabric of the chairs, the wall coverings, the signage and the shelving. Each part of the salon interior is carefully designed to complement the both the brand identity and the unique style of each salon owner, to create a space that is unique to each salon.”

This attention to detail is evident in the process followed for every salon launched across the country. “We follow a tried and tested formula for ensuring that all of our salons benefit from the best creative minds in the business,” says Melany. “No stone is left unturned, and our salons are a testament to our commitment to excellence.”

Prospective franchisees are able to see their salons take shape before a single nail station is built, and having a common vision shared from the outset, is part of what makes the relationship between franchisor and franchisee so successful. “We iron out any design challenges long before we start construction,” explains Melany. “This makes the eventual shopfitting process much smoother, and helps the salon owner build confidence in her business.”

Taking care with every element of the salon interior sets the scene for the way that Melany expects each salon to treat its clients. “The women who frequent our salons have come to expect a certain level of both quality and service,” she notes.

“When we start the salon design process with this in mind, it becomes second nature to extend that focus into customer service. We greet each client by name, offer them refreshments and remind them that they are here in our salons to relax and be treated like royalty. It’s one of the main reasons they keep coming back – every woman wants to be treated like a queen.”
