New payment dates for social grant recipients

Sassa has announced an adjusted period of payment for social grant beneficiaries.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) would like to advise social grants recipients about the dates for grant payment in the month of June.

Starting from May 2020, Sassa has announced an adjusted period of payment for social grant beneficiaries.

“When social grant is paid into beneficiaries’ Sassa cards or personal banking accounts on the third day of the month, it is not a must for recipient to collect their grant on the day that it has been paid as this causes overcrowding. “Beneficiaries can choose to collect their grant later in the month when there is less activities,” said Zodwa Mvulane, the new Sassa Gauteng regional executive manager.

On June 3 Sassa will be paying older persons to be followed by persons with disabilities from June 4. This does not mean the elderly and disabled will be unable to collect their grants on any day after June 3 or 4.

This will be followed by the payment of all other children’s grants that will be paid from June 5 onwards. Payment dates are staggered to ensure that these categories of beneficiaries are protected from month end rush at payment outlets.

Sassa would like to further advise grant recipients that they do not have to withdraw their social grants on the first day of payment.

Once the money is in the beneficiary’s account it will remain in the card for a period of three months. There is no need to rush to withdraw cash on the first day.

Beneficiaries are encouraged to utilise different forms of grants collection offered by the agency such as SAPO outlets (post offices), merchants (shops), and ATMs to collect their grant.
