Brackendowns resident at his wits’ end on City’s project

The City’s project has left Leon Pretorius, a resident of three years, frustrated due to a dug-up trench which led to his sewer pipe being damaged.

The City’s project has left Leon Pretorius, a Brackendowns resident frustrated when the digging of trenches which led to his property’s sewer pipe being damaged.

This is a result of a contracting project which has reportedly went on for more than two weeks now. Pretorius told the RECORD that the digging also resulted to the wiring of the street light outside his home being damaged.

His main concern was that the damaged sewer might later result in blockages.

He said this was because the damaged sewer pipe was wrapped with a nylon mesh after being damaged. Pretorius expressed his concerns and said that he contacted a representative from the City of Ekurhuleni regarding this.

“I phoned the representative and he came through on Monday and promised to get this fixed, but lately he is unreachable. “They also wanted to dig through my yard because they needed to lay some cables for my opposite neighbour, but I could not let them. I just need this fixed,” he said.

The RECORD then contacted Sam Mokoena, a representative in the electricity department managing the project.

He said he was made aware of the complaint and that he will escalate the matter to the relevant department and it will be attended to.
