Second man in a week electrocuted at Germiston train stations

Nothing could be done until the power was isolated

A man was electrocuted at Germiston Lake Train Station on Wednesday when he tried to cut high voltage power lines.

William Ntladi, spokesperson for Ekurhuleni emergency services, said they were called to the scene just after 9am.

On arrival, the motionless body of the man was still hanging from the 3 000 Volt overhead power cables above the railway lines. A cutting tool was found between the rail lines just below him.

“Nothing could be done until the power was isolated,” said Ntladi.

The scene was handed over to the police.

Ntladi said this was the second similar incident in a week. Last week Tuesday, the same rescue team had to recover the charred body of an adult hanging from the power lines at India Train Station in Germiston, not far from Germiston Lake Train Station.
