One fatality recorded over Easter weekend in Alberton

Fines were issued for moving violations ad people failing to carry a driver’s licence and/or professional driver's permit.

Between April 9 and 13, operations paired with enforcement on Covid-19 lockdown regulations were conducted in the City of Ekurhuleni.

Unfortunately, one fatal accident took place on April 12 at 7.38pm in the Alberton area, where a male passenger died after their Toyota light delivery vehicle lost control on JG Strijdom Road and rolled.

A case of culpable homicide has been registered at the Brackendowns Police Station to determine the cause and for further investigations.

During the weekend, 20 roving and static roadblocks were staged in the east, south and north of the City.

Two thousand and one motor vehicles were stopped during the operations, where 880 traffic fines were issued for moving violations, defects and documentation (not in possession or failing to carry driver’s licence/professional driver’s permit).

A further 11 motorists were arrested for driving while intoxicated and seven unroadworthy motor vehicles were discontinued from operating on the public road.

All arrestees are expected to appear in the appropriate magistrate’s courts soon.
