In light of the current Covid-19 pandemic and national lockdown, a 73-year-old Silwerkroon resident, Rosa Viviers, has taken it upon herself to help curb the spread of the virus.

The Randhart senior took it upon herself to help make face masks for people who need them as a means to promote health.

This comes after President Cyril Ramaphosa’s first address to the country declaring the Covid-19 pandemic as a national state of disaster in terms of the Disaster Management Act.

Rosa told the RECORD that she saw a need for putting her skills to good use immediately after hearing the president’s announcement.

“I started right after the president’s speech and I made about 70 masks for Silwerkroon residents.

“Initially, I would ask an amount of R10 for each mask and use the money to buy my prepaid electricity.

“But now people said they can’t get masks anywhere because of the high demand and most people are taking advantage of the situation. I’m willing to help my community by donating the face masks,” she said.

She said her face masks vary according to the unique colours that she designs and that they are also washable and safe to wear.

The masks are made from normal material, where the material is cut and designed to make a stylish and beautifully made mask.

She said: “I don’t mind helping the community with making masks. However, I would really appreciate any help from the community to make this initiative a success.

“I rely mostly on getting material and I still need to buy prepaid electricity to keep things running.”

As caring members of the public, SOG Security has voluntarily offered its services to Rosa to help assist deliver masks within the area of Alberton during this time. The security company will also assist her in terms of delivering donations which she receives from the community.

Community members can have masks delivered to their homes upon their request by SOG Security.
