Five speedsters arrested in Ekurhuleni

Two suspects were arrested in the Bedfordview area, one in the Alberton area and two in the Germiston area.

EMPD’s Speed Enforcement Unit arrested five offenders in the Alberton, Bedfordview and Germiston areas on March 14 and 15.

On March 14 at 7.30am on the N3 freeway between Gillooly’s Interchange and the Linksfield off-ramp the officers arrested a 24-year-old man driving a Toyota sedan.

The driver was clocked doing 182km/h and when stopped claimed he was rushing to work.

A second driver, a 31-year-old man, was stopped in the same area at 8.10am.

The driver was doing 163km/h in a white Audi A5 and had no reason for his speeding.

On the same day, at 10.20am a 33-year-old driver in a Silver Corolla was arrested on the N12 freeway between the Reading Interchange and the Voortrekker off-ramp.

The driver, who was speeding at 176km/h, claimed that he was rushing home.

On March 15, on the N3 freeway between the Geldenhuis Interchange and Rand Airport off-ramp, two drivers were arrested for speeding.

Both drivers, one aged 23 and the other 24, were clocked at 169km/h.

The arrests took place between 7.30am and 10.28am.

The arrested suspects were taken to the Bedfordview, Alberton and Germiston police stations where they were charged with reckless and negligent driving.
