Ludi Vink court case to continue in June

Daniel ‘Danny’ Jacobus Olivier (56), a well-known debt collector, and his son, Keith Olivier (31), a local car salesman, appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court

Family members and supporters of Ludi Vink (30), who was killed with a pool cue on February 21 in 2017, are preparing for another round on the witness stand.

Daniel ‘Danny’ Jacobus Olivier (56), a well-known debt collector, and his son, Keith Olivier (31), a local car salesman, appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on March 9.

Danny Olivier stabbed Vink in his right eye with a pool cue after Ludi tried to stop a fight at Mitzy’s Pub in Randhart.

The incident was recorded on CCTV footage and the video was spread worldwide.

Ludi was just back from overseas to renew his visa when this happened.

However, the case was postponed by agreement between the State and the defence due to a number of reasons.

One reason was that the defence was not in possession of the statement by Ludi’s mother, Danlee Vink.

“One of the other reasons is that the pathologist who is also a witness for the State was unable to make it to court,” said prosecutor Johan Olivier.

Magistrate Reginald Dama remanded the case to June 22 to 23.

During the next court appearance, the court, the State and the defence will watch the CCTV footage of the incident and witnesses will also give their statements.

Family and friends of Vink wore their B+ Justice for Ludi shirts to show their support.

“We just want justice to be served and we need to close this part of the book as we need to go on with our lives and get some closure. It has been three years,” the family said.

Danlee is again busy with a charity drive through which she is collecting 19 blankets and 19 packets filled with toiletries and food to donate to 19 homeless people.

The charity was created in honour of Ludi and she normally runs it on Ludi’s birthday, May 19.

“I want to give it to them and tell them that it is from someone in heaven and his name is Ludi Vink,” she said.
