Eskom will continue with stage 2 load shedding throughout the weekend until Monday morning 6am.

Load shedding was stopped at 6am on Friday but will be implemented again from 9am.

In a statement issued by Eskom on Friday morning, the shortage of generation capacity and depleted emergency resources continue. In addition, Eskom is taking out three big units for planned maintenance on Friday.

Unplanned outages were at 12 722MW at 5.30am on Friday. “We are monitoring the system closely and will continue to give periodic updates on the status of the power system as things may change at short notice,” the entity said.

To assist us in avoiding or reducing the stage of load shedding, we appeal to customers to continue to use electricity sparingly:

  • Set air-conditioners’ average temperature at 23ºC
  • Switch of your geysers over peak periods
  • Use the cold water tap rather than using the geyser every time
  • Set your swimming pool pump cycle to run twice a day, three hours at a time for optimal energy use.
  • At the end of the day, turn off computers, copiers, printers and fax machines at the switch. Avoid stand-by or sleep mode.
