There is a syndicate that is using different vehicles for these kinds of robberies.

CPS Security is urging the community of Alberton to be more vigilant when they are withdrawing money.

“We had a few incidents where local business owners were robbed of an undisclosed amount of money after they were followed from the ATM where they withdrew money to their businesses,” said sales director, Tyrone van der Merwe. According to him, there is a syndicate that is using different vehicles for these kinds of robberies.

“They use a silver Renault Clio with a cloned number plate, a silver C-class Mercedes and a white Polo Vivo.”

Incident took place on January 9 in Pieter Uys Street in Alberton North.

The latest incident took place on January 16 where robbers followed a victim from a bank at Bracken City to his business in Alrode and robbed him of R90 000.

“The syndicate is mainly focusing on Alberton and most of the owners are followed from the banks in either The Glen Shopping Centre, Mall at NewMarket and Alberton Boulevard,” said van der Merwe.

If anyone spots the syndicate, contact CPS Security on 011 024 2426 or Alberton SAPS on 011 861 6800.

CPS Security shared the following safety tips when withdrawing money:

• Ask your local security company for an armed escort

• Be alert of your surroundings

• Do not create a routine

• Keep a car length space at traffic lights in case you need to evade

• Don’t let people, such as employees, know you are dealing with cash

• Be vigilant when arriving at your destination as this is when robbery is most likely to happen.
