Verwoerdpark without electricity
Weather conditions hampered the restoration of power in Verwoerdpark.
During the first week of the year, parts of Verwoerdpark have been without electricity for days.
The RECORD requested comment from EMM regarding the power outage on January 3.
The following comment was received on January 14:
“Supply to affected portion of Verwoerdpark was restored on the morning of January 4.
“The department repaired in total five medium voltage cable faults.
“The cable faults were due to damages to outer sleeves of cables allowing ingress of water and the resulting failure of cables.
“The damages were most probably caused during previous excavations.
“Delays in restoring supply were caused by the following factors;
“• Weather conditions
“• Caution during excavation due to a number of services in the ground including our electrical cables, water and fibre optic recently installed.”
