Katlehong North SAPS arrests 25 suspects for different crimes

Katlehong North SAPS arrest 25 suspects during the festive season as part of Operation Okae Molao.

Officers from the Katlehong North Police Station and members of the EMPD took to the streets of Katlehong North during the festive season as part of Operation Okae Molao.

The operation aimed to make the festive season safer for the community and led to the arrest of 25 suspects between December 20 and 22, in the Katlehong North precinct.

“The fruitful outcome is the result of joint efforts by SAPS and other law enforcement agencies during which roadblocks, stop-and-search operations and other crime prevention operations were carried out,” said Capt Lesetja Mathobela, communications officer for the Katlehong North police.

The suspects were charged with a number of different offences.

Charges included common assault, domestic violence, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, malicious damage to property, reckless and negligent driving, dealing in dagga and driving under the influence of alcohol.

“Zero tolerance was taken towards drinking and driving and we remind the community not to take any chances. Rather stay where you are until you have sobered up,” said Mathobela.

All of the arrested suspects appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court where their cases were postponed for various reasons.

Katlehong North SAPS station commander Col Raymond Buthelezi pledged his commitment to making sure that the area is safe from criminals.
