That also means it is time for the residents to get into their vehicles and take the tour over the festive season to enjoy their own Christmas light tour and share in the magic.

• 77 Vermooten Street (lights will be on daily – weather permitting)

Brackendowns

• 19 Limpopo Street (lights will be on daily – weather permitting)

Albertsdal

• 26 Eekhoring Street, Lights are on daily from 7.30pm to 8pm

Newmarkert

• Make a stop at Amcare, corner of Heidelberg and Ascot streets, New Market Park, to view the Tree of Lights. Members of the public could purchase a light bulb in remembrance of loved ones who died. Lights will stay switched on for the remainder of this year.

Worth the drive

• Experience festive season delight at the mesmerising Garden of Lights, powered by The City of Ekurhuleni in the Gardens at the D’oreale Grande Hotel, Emperors Palace. Bring your family and escape to an enchanting wonderland where holiday cheer will fill the air.

• The Festival of Lights at Joburg Zoo will brighten up your festive spirit with its month-long programme of events. Fun for the whole family.

Open daily from 7pm tot 10pm (except Mondays). Entrance costs R120, R60 for children, and children aged under 3 enter for free. The festival of lights is open until January 5.

• Destination Christmas at Melrose Arch is also another Christmas atmosphere for the whole family. The children will love wandering through the glow of thousands of Christmas lights in the Fantasy Garden on the Melrose Arch piazza where photo opportunities abound under a festive tunnel of lights that includes life-sized illuminated reindeers, giant teddy bears, Christmas trees, elves and other dazzling illuminations. Entrance is free. The illuminations are on until January 5.
