Verwoerd Park resident, tattoo artist makes her mark on environment

Hearing reports of illegal dumping and littering in parks and streams in Alberton, Waldeck has taken it upon herself to clean up these areas

Verwoerd Park resident Melissa Waldeck has put her foot down on illegal dumping around Alberton.

Hearing reports of illegal dumping and littering in parks and streams, Waldeck has taken it upon herself to clean up these areas and has been helping the environment for the past month.

She told the RECORD that she was inspired by Greta Thunberg, a Swedish environmental activist on climate change whose campaign has gained international recognition.

The tattoo artist intends to rid Alberton’s streams of litter, which she said poses a threat to animals.

She has always been concerned about her environment and hopes to bring about change.

“People tend to ask me why I do this because there are workers who do this.

Melissa Waldeck is ready to keep Alberton clean.

“I am probably going to do this for the rest of my life. I want people to focus on environmental issues and we should focus on the solutions rather than just the problems,” she said.

She has invited the public to help her keep Alberton’s parks and streams clean. Contact her at Melissatextj@gmail.com.
