GALLERY: Lightning strike sets Balls an’ All house on fire

Balls an’ All (NPO) animal rescue based in Walkerville has been hit by lightning which led to a house fire during a storm this evening, November 23.

According to Ivn Parkes, sector manager for community police De Deur, “the whole house is completely burnt out, theres absolutely nothing left out,” he said.

Vanessa Horton the owner of the house says all her belongings has been set alight due to lightening.

Due to the unfortunate condition of the road out to the house, after previous heavy rains and the storm last night, the fire engine managed to get to the fire but subsequently ran out of water and other fire engines called out to assist couldn’t get through the deep mud.
The fire engines at the house took over three hours to be freed from the mud.
“Grateful thanks to local farmers who came out to help and then brought a TLB to the scene to assist in getting the fire engines out,” said Ivan Parks

fourteen animals were in the house when the fire started and they have managed to rescue thirteen animals, one is still missing.

Craig Hogan a close friend of the family says the animals have been rushed to the closet, vet.

Balls an’ All (NPO) is a sterilisation and primary healthcare charity which assists people who can’t afford standard veterinary rates.
