AFTER numerous complaints of the state of cleanliness, which has been a concern to many, Dameskring Olienhouttak took the lead at Alberton’s post office on November 2. The organisation, whose values are instilled on Christianity, gathered for a clean-up at the post office.

The group, chaired by Brenda van Zyl, comprises six seniors who went all out to leave the post office sparkling clean. Their motive was inspired by their recently held meeting with South Africa Day’s chief executive Barend La Grange, who motivated the group to make a difference. The group took it upon themselves to use their own cleaning equipment and mopped and cleaned the shelves.

The clean-up was themed “It starts with you”. Vinette Otto, a member of Dameskring Olienhouttak, said through the clean-up, they hoped to inspire others to also make a difference in any way possible. “We have heard people complain that the state of our post office is not satisfactory, which is why we decided to come through on this day. We want to encourage others that if there’s something that doesn’t sit well with you, take action,” said Otto.
