WATCH: Royal Schools tells Nandi’s story

“Many of the main cast members have shown tremendous positive change within themselves, being given a chance to shine.” - Cheree Kotze, head of department.

ROYAL Schools Alberton held their first school play extravaganza on September 18.

The play followed the story of Nandi, a new student at the school who brings an element of change to the school dynamics.

The change Nandi brings is definitely not a positive one, leading to infighting between the boys of the school for her affection and finally culminating in her influence leading to underage drinking.

At this stage a shocking reveal is made by officers stopping the party and arresting Nandi. Nandi was in fact much older than the rest of her class and has been in trouble with the law previously.

All of this storytelling was accompanied by dance numbers performed by the learners.

The overarching narrative the children wanted to carry over with the story is that one should not judge a book by its cover.

Despite Nandi seeming to be the perfect schoolgirl, her past was fraught with problems and challenges that she struggled with and is yet to overcome.

“I am extremely proud of all my learners taking part, as for some, it is the first time ever engaging in such an activity,” said Cheree Kotze, the head of department in charge of the play.

“Many of the main cast members have shown tremendous positive change within themselves, being given a chance to shine.”

The main cast of the play worked closely with inspiring and hard-working actors from New Market Theatre.

Also featured on the night were several guest stars entertaining people with their voices and dance moves. The guest stars were Man of Song, Brenda Duma, Palmtree_PDA and Kallo_Moon.
