A group of 40 girls and their parents were honoured in a graduation ceremony held at Ascot Mews in New Market on August 9.

AS PART of Women’s Day, Amcare honoured girls and their parents in a ceremony held at Ascot Mews in New Market on August 9.

The graduation ceremony was held in recognition of the commitment of a group of 40 girls to a mentorship programme which empowered them to dream big.

The group was split into two groups of 20 girls, with each group having its own leadership camp. The girls attended the mentorship and facilitation programmes once a week for 12 weeks.

Girls aged between 13 and 18 were guided and mentored by experienced individuals from different organisations.

The teenagers were also taught skills with which to accomplish their goals.

PEPFAR as the main funder, along with other social partners, made the ceremony a success.

The girls came from Thokoza, Alberton, Greenfield, Palmridge and Eden Park.

Nadine Mason, Amcare’s marketing director, told the RECORD that the girls learned that their circumstances could not stop them from achieving their dreams.

“They were also taught about communication and how to live well around other community members.

“They were encouraged to prioritise education. We would like to thank Amcare staff for their assistance in making the event a success,” she said.
