Leondale resident Masego Nkuna (27) releases a book to encourage the youth

Masego Nkuna is an author and a poet who wants to share her life’s experiences through her recently-published book.

MASEGO Nkuna (27) recently published her book titled Narrated in me.

This Leondale resident started writing her book in 2017 after completing her National Diploma in Food Technology at the Tshwane University of Technology.

Prior to publishing her book, she did research on her target market and how the book would relate to her readers.

The self-published author has presented her readers with an easy to read a book which caters for both teenagers and adults.

She told the RECORD that her poetry book best shares her life’s experiences, stories told to her by others which primarily focuses on love, religion, spirituality, and social-ills.

“This book encourages the youth to not give up but believe that anything is possible as long as they put their minds to it. My messages focus more on those who come from disadvantaged backgrounds and have lost hope,” she said.

Masego grew up in Mpumalanga in an area called Seabe and matriculated in 2009 at Mmametlhake High School.

Her childhood years and growing up in a rural area motivated her to start writing poetry which advocates patience, independence, and self-confidence. Finding out at the age of 17 that her stepdad, whom she adored, was not her biological father also gave her an experience to which she shares through the book.

“The book relates to people who are going through a lot. At times people tend to have suicidal thoughts because of the challenges they come across. This book gives an assurance that there’s light at the end of the tunnel,” said Masego.

Among many other topics found in her book, is the poem titled Narrated in me, which summaries the reason for her putting her poetry in book form to publish it.

Apart from her poetry, Masego is busy writing her memoir which she also hopes to publish one day. She is also a part-time model for modelling agencies.
