Nhlakanipho Zungo sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Charmaine Beige

Zungo was found guilty of a murder which occurred at the Mshayazafe Hostel in Thokoza on November 3, 2017.

ON July 5, Nhlakanipho Zungo (29) was sentenced to life imprisonment following a successful trial in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.

Zungo was found guilty of a murder which occurred at the Mshayazafe Hostel in Thokoza on November 3, 2017.

He was accused of shooting and fatally wounding Charmaine Beige, after which he fled the scene.

Det Const Mandla Ntshanga received information that Zungo was arrested in Mahlabathini, KwaZulu-Natal, for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

In a ballistic report it was found that the cartridges found in the Thokoza hostel matches the one found in Mahlabathini. Zungu was charged with murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.

Zungo was sentenced to life imprisonment for the count of murder.

He was also sentenced to 15 years for possession of an unlicensed firearm and two years for unlawful possession of ammunition.

The sentences will run concurrently.
