UPDATE: WATCH – Firefighters combat blaze at recycling plant in Alrode

The emergency services managed to completely put the fire out only after midnight on June 2.

ON July 1 emergency services responded to a major fire at a plastic recycling plant in Alrode.

The fire originated among the plastic bottles the company collects and recycles.

According to the acting spokesperson for emergency services, Eric Maloka, the cause of the fire could not be determined.

WATCH:

Several tankers from around Ekurhuleni responded to the blaze to try and contain it. The major concern for the firefighters was nearby fuel and gas lines as well as explosives housed at a nearby company.

The more than six tankers present struggled into the night to suppress the fire which started around 1.30pm.

A concern was nearby gas and fuel lines (yellow pipe is a gas line) which had to be kept cool and away from the flames.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

WATCH:

Firefighters kept showering the fire with water, using the tankers to rotate between fetching more water and spraying the water onto the fire which was raging.

The emergency services managed to completely put the fire out only after midnight on June 2.

Water was circulated between trucks as well as pumped into storage reservoirs for use in emergencies.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

WATCH:

There were no reported casualties or injuries.
