Leaners urged to attend winter school

SOME learners see the need to attend winter school because they perhaps do not have the time to go on holidays to visit relatives. The fact remains that learners have to attend winter schools so that they can be grasp more during winter holidays, and to prepare for trial-exams. First, let’s be clear. Winter school is a type of short-term study programme offered throughout the world, including in the southern hemisphere, and can be a great way to complete some extra credits, or explore subject options.

Various universities around the country host winter school programmes mostly for Grade 11 and 12 learners. Winter schools are not just about boosting exams results. Learners are brought together from different walks of life to be inspired to dream.

The misapprehension has it that winter school is meant for the under-performing learners. This is not true. Winter schools help all learners to improve their marks, and increase the probability of passing matric. Winter school caters for every learner, whether they excel or under-perform. Studies have shown that when learners are out of their school comfort zones, and are together with learners from different schools and walks-of life, that is when real learning begins.
