EMPD intensified Easter weekend crime operation

High density operation in the EMPD southern region nets 23 drunk drivers.

EMPD intensified operations by embarking on high density special operations in an endeavour to ensure safety for all the road users over the Easter weekend.

The special operations commenced as early as Wednesday evening targeting all feeder roads and arterials carrying heavy traffic volumes with the focus on those not adhering to the rules of the road.

Chief of Police Isaac Jabulani Mapiyeye visited all the static and roving roadblocks which were aimed at crime prevention in the areas of Germiston, Boksburg and Alberton.

“This is our earnest endeavour to ensure that a safe environment for all in the city is made possible and thus no mercy will be shown to anyone who fails to observe the rules of the road, or engages in any criminality,” said Mapiyeye.

“These operations shall continue unabated until the traffic volumes are back to normal on April 24,” Mapiyeye added.

At total of 23 drunk drivers were arrested between Thursday and Sunday morning.

Eleven were nabbed in Boksburg, eight apprehended in Tokoza and one in Primrose.
