Another contractor to be appointed for Palm Ridge’s water reservoir

The RECORD published this letter on April 10 and would like to publish it again, this time with the comment from EMM.

With reference to the above and the mayor’s state of the city speech, on page 7 of his address the mayor indicated that three new reservoirs were built, providing a combined capacity of 55 mega litres. I would like to invite the mayor to come out to Palm Ridge and inspect the new reservoir. The residents of Palm Ridge formal and the extensions are facing big issues regarding water supply in the area. Either there is no water or the pressure is very low.

For over a year no work has been done on the reservoir. Its two years since the contractor dug up the road and it was never fixed. It’s amazing how the mayor can brag about what Ekurhuleni has achieved regarding the reservoirs. We, the residents of Palm Ridge, have had enough with all these false promises.

EMM’s spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, replied with the following:

“Construction of the new Palm Ridge 35 mega litres reservoir commenced on the May 14, 2018, until June 30, 2018, after the reservoir construction was complete, with only pipework remaining.

A new process to appoint another contractor to do pipe work was initiated in December 2018 after allocation of additional budget. A new contractor is expected to commence work on July 1. Residents should be assured that work will be completed by December 2019.”
