MEC Lesufi makes changes at Glenview

The SGB has been disbanded, the principal sent for diversity training and a HOD must report to the district until investigations into her are completed.

A POSSIBLE solution that could mean the end of Glenview Primary’s concerns was given by MEC Panyaza Lesufi on April 2.

Following extensive meetings at Glenview with the principal, Tommie Stoltz, the staff and the SGB, Lesufi addressed parents to tell them about the decisions that were taken to overcome the problems the school has been experiencing.

This includes the incident where more than 20 teachers were absent from the school.

“All of us agree there is a crisis in this school,” said Lesufi to the parents. “It can’t be normal that 20-odd teachers take sick leave at the same time.”

Lesufi also pointed out that there is a divided SGB, various accusations against the principal and teachers being scared is not normal.

The solutions Lesufi implemented are as follows:

All SGB members were to receive a letter on April 3 informing them that the SGB is being disbanded and they no longer serve on the SGB. The principal, Tommie Stoltz, is to take a three-month diversity and social cohesion course.

A head of department, Denise Potgieter, implicated by the meetings, must report to the district until charges against her have been investigated.

All teachers that were absent during the mass absenteeism are to give the department audi letters explaining why action should not be taken against them for their absenteeism.

Department takes charge

To ensure that the time lost by the learners due to the events occurring at Glenview is caught up, a catch-up plan has been put in place to cover the needed work.

According to Lesufi the plan is to have 10 minutes from each period cut and put together for a time to be utilised for catching up the lost work.

Lesufi guaranteed that report cards will be sent out by April 5.

“The decisions are taken in the interest of my children here,” said Lesufi.

At the beginning of the meeting with parents, the chairperson of the then SGB was about to open the floor for questions from the parents.

He was, however, interrupted and the MEC explained that he misinformed the chairperson during the proceedings. There was no opportunity for the parents to ask questions regarding their concerns.
