According to the management less than 10 per cent of their tenants have access to generators which limits their ability to trade.

Tenants of Alberton City raised various concerns linked to the power outage and how it affects them.

One of the largest concerns they have is that load-shedding limits the amount of foot traffic the mall experiences.

People do not come to the mall during the periods of load-shedding which means that even stores that can trade lose revenue as they don’t have many customers.

This is in some cases the lesser concern as the load-shedding leaves certain stores completely in the dark, unable to use the machines they need to to complete their services

Stores selling food have also shown concern in that they may lose their stock as it can’t be refrigerated.

LIFE-SAVING: SANBS in Alberton City needed to urgently send their blood and platelets to head office to keep it viable.

The blood donation centre of the SANBS situated in the mall was also forced to resort to emergency pick up to keep their stocks viable. Blood which needs to be refrigerated and especially platelets that need to be agitated to be kept viable had to be moved from the centre to the head office immediately.
