Parents have raised concerns about mass absenteeism of teachers at Glenview Primary since March 6.

A NOTICE regarding a strike at Glenview Primary School, which could escalate to nearby schools at 10am on March 15 (today) has been circulated around social media. The origin of this notice cannot be confirmed.

Concerned parents of learners at Glenview Primary are in talks with the chairperson of the School Governing Body (SGB) regarding their concerns of absent teachers at Glenview Primary. Parents have raised concerns about mass absenteeism of teachers at Glenview Primary since March 6. According to DoE spokesperson, Steve Mabona, the teachers have been given sick leave due to stress as a reason for their absenteeism. He also added the absenteeism should be seen in the light of an ongoing dispute between a Head of Department (HOD) at the school and the principal which was reported to the department in 2018.

Parents and SGB are in talks regarding an official meeting to take place next week where the issue of children’s reports is to be discussed.

The RECORD is keeping tabs on the situation at the school but at the moment it is calm and there is no threat of strike or violence.
